I am a medically trained doctor and have undertaken specialty training in anaesthesia. After completing 6 years at Monash University and obtaining honours for my primary medical degree I did my internship at Monash Medical Centre. I then commenced physician training at the Austin Hospital and completed a further two years of subspecialty medical jobs before applying for and being accepted onto the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists 5 year training program. This training was undertaken at the Austin and its affiliates, Royal Children’s Hospital, Mercy Hospital for Women and Monash Medical Centre. At the end of my training I travelled to the UK and worked for 2 years at Addenbrookes NHS Trust in Cambridge with further training in anaesthesia for liver transplantation and neurosurgery. In 2010 I completed my formal qualification in trans-oesophageal echocardiography and undertook a sabbatical to Pittsburgh and San Francisco with a focus on liver and small bowel transplant anaesthesia. I currently work as a VMO Specialist in Anaesthesia at Austin Health where I provide elective and emergency anaesthesia for complex patients scheduled for surgery in a variety of subspecialties. In private practice I work predominantly at Warringal, The Avenue, Epworth, Knox, and Manningham DPU providing anaesthesia for oral surgery, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, general surgery including bariatrics, endoscopy, ophthalmic surgery and cardiac catheter lab.
In addition to my work in the operating room I maintain an active interest in clinical research and teaching. I have numerous publications in peer reviewed journals, and have been an invited speaker at local, national and international meetings. I have an ongoing involvement in training junior anaesthetists and am a College SSU(Specialised Study Unit) supervisor. I am committed to ongoing professional development and actively participate in the ANZCA CPD program. For many years I have been a member of the Medical Advisory Committee at Warringal and currently act as the Chair of that group.
Outside medicine I am a devoted father of 3 children. I enjoy an active lifestyle, play social tennis and am a self-confessed golf tragic. I am an enthusiastic traveller and am passionate about food, wine and the North Melbourne Football club.
